Literacy Summit Addresses
Global Education

The summit addressed how global issues impact American communities and create the need to improve literacy and education. "Education begins with literacy," said Sharon Darling, "to improve, refine, and transform education we must first begin with literacy and the challenges posed by low literacy. There are 34 million adults in the US who have difficulty with reading and comprehension." Literacy is essential for success in the classroom, work place, and the global market. The National Center for Family Literacy, founded in 1989, has raised over $120 million, which impacts families, teachers, and volunteers. Contact: 877-FAMLIT-1. Visit: www.famlit.org.
